Another
Salvador's landmark is the lighthouse called
Farol da Barra. Built by the Portuguese in the XVI century, it was originally a fortification that defended the city and the entry of the bay and it was known as
Forte de Santo António (in English, Fort of Saint Anthony).

In fact it was only later (around the XVII century) that, in order to prevent the continuous shipwrecks from happening in the shallow waters of the bay, the place was transformed into a lighthouse.

Without any doubts, a place to visit. The view is awesome and it's just in the way to the beautiful
Porto da Barra beach (in the photo above to the left and coming right up in detail in my next post).
