Girl Overboard

GIRL OVERBOARD
By:  Aimee Ferris

SUMMARY

Marina Grey is a seventeen-year-old girl who loves everything to do with the sea.  Considering her name is Marina, it seems meant-to-be that she would want to become a marine biologist.
Marina lives in Vermont and has a long-term boyfriend named Damon.  She is accepted on the Caribbean Semester At Sea, which is run by the Students Across the Seven Seas.  Marina is overjoyed, but this trip will put her relationship with Damon to the test.
While on the cruise, Marina is kept very busy learning about dolphins.  But there is one thing that keeps Marina from concentrating on her studies – Link.  Link is a cute Australian teen who wants to be more than friends with Marina.
Marina is torn between Damon and Link.  Damon offers a comfortable relationship back home.  Link, however, shares Marina’s love of the sea and he brings many surprises too.
Who do you think Marina will chose?

REVIEW

This story is different from any I’ve read before.  A teen girl taking a six-week cruise to learn about the sea is a unique story line.  I like that!
I could feel the tension rising between Marina and Damon throughout the story.  I could also feel the growing bond between Marina and Link.  It was not always obvious, but it was there.
Another fun thing about this book was that I learned about some of the exotic places that the cruise went to.  My favorite was their visit to see dolphins in the Bahamas.  The dolphins were so playful.
