Arm Chair BEA - Introducing Sherry from Semicolon

ARM CHAIR BEA
Interview with Sherry at semicolon
I am very excited to introduce you to Sherry and her wonderful blog, semicolon.  This fellow Texan is my kind of gal.  She loves reading, movies, and Blue Bell ice cream.  Let’s see what else we can learn about Sherry.

I see that you have eight children.  Did you grow up in a large family as well?
No, actually, I have one sister, who, by the way, started blogging about the same time you did, just a few months ago.

What is your greatest joy in home schooling your children?
Well, that's easy. I love sharing books with them.  I like reading out loud.  I like recommending books.  I like them recommending books to me.  I like discussing books.  I'm sort of obsessed, but it's an educational obsession.

How did you decide to do your book reviews in a free-form manner?
Well, I didn't really start out to write book reviews.  I just wanted a blog to write about what i was interested in and thinking about.  Since a lot of what I think about is books and the ideas in them, I started writing "reviews.”  However, I still don't think of it that way.  I just write down whatever the book made me think of or what I'm interested in remembering.

What books did you like to read when you were my age?
I read Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden.  I read a lot of historical fiction set in Biblical times and all of the books in the library on Greek and Norse mythology.  I read other mysteries, too.  When I was little older than you are, I read The Hobbit and the Narnia books, and I loved them.

I looked through your list of 107 movies.  You have a great variety of movies on your list.  Which would be your favorite chick-flick and favorite comedy?
Favorite chick flick:  The Philadelphia Story with Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, and Cary Grant.  My fifteen year old daughter loves this one, too.
Favorite comedy:  It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is the best comedy ever made.

We are both Texans, so I have to ask what is your favorite Lone Star State tradition?
Food:  fried chicken, homemade ice cream (or Blue Bell), pecan pie, pecans in everything, black-eyed peas, barbecue brisket, Tex-Mex, iced tea, chicken fried steak…I could go on for a while.
I wrote a post called Ways to be Texan that tells about lots of other Texas traditions and icons that make me happy.
Thank you Sherry!
