Hush Hush

HUSH HUSH

By:  Becca Fitzpatrick

FIRST SENTENCE

“I walked into biology and my jaw fell open.”

SUMMARY
from goodreads

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan.  She’s never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her … until Patch comes along.

With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.  But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure whom to trust.  Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends.  She can’t decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide.  And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen – and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choices will cost her life.

REVIEW

I have never said this in a review before.  My favorite part of this book is the ending.  I was surprised in a very nice way.  Lots of questions were answered and there was suspense right up to that last sentence.

But don’t go thinking that I ONLY liked the ending.  That’s pretty far from the truth.

Nora and Patch were an unlikely pair.  Nora was a rule-follower, was quietly social, and she was sort of a goody-two-shoes.  Patch, on the other hand, didn’t follow the rules, acted aloof, and was an all-around bad boy.  I guess opposites attract!

The relationship between Nora and Vee was a realistic BFF relationship.  I liked that they had each other to count on.  Vee was a social butterfly and some of her scenes were pretty funny.  She is a friend I would like to have.

Hush Hush was a nice change from faeries, werewolves, and vampires.  While there was a supernatural element to the story, it was understated.  I enjoyed how Becca Fitzpatrick worked it in, but it did not overpower the plot.  She worked magic with her words for sure.

Looks like I need to go out and get a copy of Crescendo to see what happens after Hush Hush’s awesome ending.
