Review
Get ready to see Sleeping Beauty in a whole new way. In this version of the classic fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty (aka Lucette) is cursed by the Vampire Queen Natasha. When Lucette pricks her finger, the entire kingdom of Xandria is affected by the curse. Lucette will forever fall asleep at sunrise and awaken at sunset – everyone else in Xandria will fall asleep at sunset and awaken at sunrise. I loved this new spin to the story!
Things get really interesting when Lucette becomes involved with the vampires who stalk Xandria after dark. She befriends Alex, a sweet vampire boy and learns how to slay evil vampires from Tristan, a human boy. The friendship formed between Lucette and these two is nicely written and believable.
Lucette is a strong heroine who defends her castle and her kingdom. Her bravery in the face of evil vampires was a nice change from the damsel in distress type of fairy tale.
This book is a Twisted Tale where the reader chooses between various outcomes several times during the book. Very fun! I felt like I had some control over the story and what would happen. Since I loved the writing so much, I ended up reading all the options, and I liked them all.
If you like fairy tale retellings, you will flip for this adorable version of Sleeping Beauty.

Cover Comments
This cover is perfect for the fairy tale retelling it represents. I see Lucette dressed for the night, she is holding a wooden stake, the castle is in the background, and there is a huge full moon. Since this is a middle grade book, the cover is not too dark and scary. It’s perfect!
