The Tamar Project (in Portuguese, Projecto Tamar) is an initiative designed to help protect the sea turtles in Brazil. The idea is fantastic and they have many, many people involved in the arduous tasks of marking the turtle's nests in the beaches (so that the people don't accidentally step on them) and (from January to March) helping the newborns to reach the sea.
You can visit this project's facilities to see the turtles all around the Brazilian coast - for instance, the friend in the photo above is available to meet you every day from 9:00 to 17:00 in the project center on Praia do Forte.
As you can see in the photo above the project has been very successful and to this date they have already helped the birth of over 9 million sea turtles.
If you want you can also help them by symbolically adopt your own sea turtle. All you need to do is make a donation to the foundation and you will get the Adoption Kit - an exclusive t-shirt plus the Adoption Certificate (with the turtle’s name of your choice).
By the way, mine is Rebecca ;D
