Forgive My Fins

FORGIVE MY FINS
By:  Tera Lynn Childs
FIRST SENTENCE
“Water calms me.”
SUMMARY
from goodreads
Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it’s not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast.  Unrequited love is hard enough when you’re a normal teenage girl, but when you’re half human, half mermaid like Lily, there’s no such thing as a simple crush.
Lily’s mermaid identity is a secret that can’t get out, since she’s not just any mermaid- she’s a Thalassinian princess.  When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn’t feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she’s been living on land and going to Seaview high school ever since, hoping this is where she truly belongs.  Sure land has its problems- like obnoxious, biker boy neighbor Quince Fletcher- but it has that on major perk-Brody.  The problem is, mermaids aren’t really the casual dating type- when they “bond”, it’s for life.
When Lily’s attempt to win Brody’s love leads to a tsunami- sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin, that happily-ever-after never sails as smoothly as you planned.
REVIEW
I have always liked mermaids because they are magical and so graceful in the water.  They even live in beautifully enchanted under-water lands that humans can only imagine. There’s no doubt about it, mermaids are cool.
Before I start talking about the story, I have to point out the stunning cover.  The ocean blues and the fancy font drew me in immediately.  So pretty.
Lily makes a wonderful main character.  She is not perfect by any means and she is naïve to her feelings about the boy she should bond with.  Since her bond will last forever, I loved that she took her choice so seriously.
Tera Lynn Childs wove the plot with little twists and turns all along the way.  I kept wanting to keep reading to see what would happen next.  Lots of cute ocean references were a nice surprise too.  It’s these sort of things that make an average book special.  This book definitely scores a 5 on my girlie-meter!
Forgive My Fins is a sweet summer read that any mermaid-lover will enjoy.
