Razo is baffled when he’s invited to join an elite guard escorting the Bayern ambassador to the country’s enemy, Tira, but when his ability to befriend nobles as well as common folk makes him an invaluable asset. Unfortunately, charm alone will not be enough to save the mission when Razo stumbles upon a series of gruesome murders.
REVIEW
River Secrets offers a change-of-pace because the main character, Razo, is a boy and he has no special gift. Razo has a great sense of humor and he is pretty silly. He was the perfect choice for a main character.
Razo is an unlikely hero. With no special gift, he does not understand why he has been chosen to join the elite guard. Razo discovers his talent for the slingshot and realizes that he can, in fact, help the cause.
Hale works in some romance between Razo and Dasha, a water speaker. Although Razo does not lose his charm, he does become somewhat more serious. I enjoyed his transformation.
Another wonderful novel by Shannon Hale.
