GOODREADS SUMMARY

When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.

REVIEW

Angelfire completely blew me away! With a plot that slowly builds in intensity, this novel grabbed my attention and would not let go. I mean that – Would. Not. Let. Go.

If you think you have angel books all figured out, you are wrong. Angelfire takes things further with archangels and reapers. Those reapers are angry savage beasts and Courtney Moulton knows exactly how to write their scenes. I like my reaper scenes with just enough gore and lots of action, thank you.

Ellie’s story is fascinating. She has been reincarnated many times and she hunts reapers. I know, pretty crazy stuff. Did I mention that she can use angelfire with her weapons so she is even more powerful? I love that Ellie is a strong fighter, but that she also has a vulnerable side. At first, she comes off as annoying and spoiled, but she proves that first impressions are not always right.

Will has been chosen as Ellie’s guardian. He has actually been with Ellie in past lives. She remembers bits and pieces of their past, but not everything. I just love how Courtney Moulton keeps some of their past a secret – at least for now. Ellie and Will together are beautiful.

I have a feeling that Angelfire will be one of the top YA debuts of 2011. A prize that is well deserved.

COVER COMMENTS

Look at that weapon and Ellie’s fire red hair. She has a fierce look on her face too. “Look out reapers, ‘cuz here I come!”
