Once again thanks and words to Marcela! Today, some travel tips for elderly people. As usual photos taken from Open Galleries.
Just because you are older does not mean that you cannot travel. You just need to take a few precautions. Thankfully, more insurance companies are offering good cheap travel insurance even for those who are elderly. Check which one is best for you. Here are some travel tips and tricks for elderly people, because you also deserve to go.
Flight Bookings - There are a number of ways to fly to any destination, and many airports have good hotels that don't have to cost a fortune. Some flights even have specials where they include the stay in a hotel when passing through a particular airport. Look for these. Some of the cheapest flights to a far away destination, may be longer in total travel time, but they will have more stops. This may actually be what you are looking for when you are flying because it is the time in the air that will be stressing your body the most.
Rest Stops - Many modern airports have more facilities than just full-blown hotels. Some airports have rest rooms, that are actually like hotel rooms with booking available for short periods of time. This could be a good way to relax, rest and refresh between those multiple flights.
Travel Coverage - More companies are offering travel insurance designed for the wiser of our society. There are a number of companies that do cover the elderly. Also ask them for other suggestions and tips they should have. You might find that they are more helpful than you think when it comes to tips and ideas on safe travel for the elderly. Make sure your insurance covers your pre-existing medical condition. This is something that many good companies can do.
In Flight - Everyone needs rest where they can, and so taking a few creature comforts can make all the difference. Spending that extra money for a business class, or first class seat, might really be worth it. It makes a big difference – shown in the price. Other small items such as a 'neck support' and some other personal comforts can make all the difference on that long flight. Always keep hydrated, and even though we need to rest, it is important to get up and move our bodies around at least every 2 hours where possible.
Transfers - Try to have your transfers pre-arranged. More often than not, you can have them pre-arranged at prices the same, and even less than, what you will pay when you arrive. Booking ahead always has benefits.
Think Ahead - Many people forget about the implications of time difference. You are going to be tired from any long flight. Time at arrival may mean that it is better to have a good rest and wait until you are refreshed before you go looking at those pyramids. Heading straight into activities because it is morning when you arrive might not be the best option, especially when your body is ready for bed.
Retirement is the time in your life when you should have more time and opportunity to do the things that you want. Enjoy it.
I agree Marcela, just because one has seen a few Springs doesn't mean one should stop traveling. While we can, it's always good to go out there and see the world :)
