REVIEW
I have always pictured archeologists as guys wearing khaki shorts running around the desert with picks and shovels. It never even occurred to me that a fourteen-year-old girl could be an archeologist. This book is a real eye-opener to the archeological world and the adventures it holds.
Amber’s archeology teacher, Dorothy, is very brave and a little kooky too. She takes Amber with her when she breaks into a museum to see the displays and artifacts. Later, when Dorothy is kidnapped, Amber and her friends go on an adventure to save her. The kids end up finding and protecting the Hidden Scepter that Dorothy was searching for. There is A LOT of action!
Something I really like is that Frank L. Cole writes on a middle grade level. He could have gone and gotten all technical and written way over my head, but he didn’t. Instead, he includes explanations of things like Hebrew words and archeological terms. I was never overwhelmed.
Amber is an amazing problem solver. I would like to see her do a Sudoku puzzle. She was solving ancient puzzles left and right. Some of these were puzzles that have stumped great minds for many years. That is a little unbelievable, but I like to pretend it was possible.
Amber’s team of friends has to steer clear of an evil organization while still saving their teacher. They explore ancient ruins, race through cities, and even set off explosions. I enjoyed all the action and how the kids worked together. I think this is a great read for a middle grade boy.

The cover is just okay for me. I like that Amber’s special blue necklace is there, but I don’t really get the fire.
