Sydney's Best Music Festivals, Australia

Back to Sydney with Sachin this time for a list of the Best Music Festivals available in town. From Electronics to Metal and Hip-hop, Australians have it all :)

There are so many reasons to make a trip to Sydney. As the largest city in Australia it embodies so many of the things that make this country great—enterprise, innovation, culture, beaches—and most of all, a genuine passion for the outdoors. Australians are also very passionate about their music, and so the two great loves come together in the quintessential Aussie summer pastime—the music festival.

While music festivals happen all over Australia, Sydney sees more than its fair share, and the summer calendar is dotted with events almost every weekend. If you haven’t already bought your travel insurance and booked your tickets, this list is going to get you into gear, because we’re about to share eight of Sydney’s best music festivals.

Sydney Festival, Australia
Parklife - If you’re an electronic music nut or just out to get your groove on and boogie, October’s Parklife Festival is a brilliant opportunity to dust off those dancing shoes.

Homebake - An All-Australian lineup is the feature of this iconic festival, and having seen everyone from Powderfinger to Eskimo Joe and Crowded House grace its stages you can be darn sure you’re in for a good time.

Good Vibrations Festival - Good Vibrations Festival happens all over the country, and usually features a dream lineup of local and international acts. It’s a hip-hop heavy festival, and with the likes of Salt’n Peppa and Busta Rhymes having played there in former years, it certainly lives up to its name.

Big Day Out - Usually falling on Australia Day or thereabouts in Sydney, the Big Day Out Festival has seen some of the world’s biggest artists grace its stages. It’s one huge day of fun, music and dancing and with almost every genre imaginable represented there really is something for everyone.

Stereosonic - Hip Hop, Dance and Drum and Bass are the names of the game at Stereosonic, and this less-known festival is becoming bigger and bigger each year because of the chilled out crowds, longer sets and great artists.

Sound Wave - Head bangers and metal-lovers, this one is for you! Sound Wave Festival is a hard rock and heavy metal extravaganza, and while the crowd and the artists might look like they’re happily eat your children for breakfast, metal heads in person are some of the most polite, gentle people around.

Laneway - Laneway Festival is one for the indie crowd, with an increasingly impressive lineup each year. Laneway draws a mellow, older crowd, but that doesn’t stop them having a great time as they listen to the latest and greatest in alternative music.

Playground Weekender - Set in the lush natural surrounds of Wiseman’s Ferry, Playground Weekender lives up to its name—it is pure, unadulterated fun. There’s a river, yoga classes, plenty of awesome music and one of the best festival vibes you’ll ever come across.

If you’re thinking of travelling to Sydney for one of the above festivals, make sure you book your accommodation in advance. Sydney hostels and hotels book up fast around these times, so be sure to plan in advance so as not to be disappointed
