There is.

REVIEW

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is confusing and creepy and crazy and romantic too.  Best of all, that all combines into one of the best books EVER.  Not just this year.  EVER!  It's hard to even find the words to describe Just. How. Awesome. this book is.  Everything about it is golden.  I will attempt to make some sense of  the confusing and creepy and crazy and romantic Mara Dyer.

Normally confusing would be bad, but in Mara Dyer, confusing is brilliant. Mara has been involved in a building collapse that killed her friends. Somehow she survived unharmed, but has no memory of what happened. Now, Mara is left with frightening thoughts, hallucinations, and self-doubt. I was struggling right along with Mara as she tried to separate the real from the unreal. I often had no idea what was going on and, even now, I am not sure about all of it. Like I said, it’s brilliant.

The creepy comes in with the visions Mara sees. Well, maybe they are visions and maybe they are real. Imagine seeing one dead friend in a mirror and another staring at you. So creepy!  I kinda' don't want to be in a darkish room with mirrors ever again.  And then there are all the murders and near-murders taking place around Mara. There is a strangling and a bashed-in skull and even some vicious alligators. Is Mara involved somehow? Why is she still alive? Is this even happening? Creepy!

The crazy is Mara! Since she has no grasp of reality, Mara is in a constant state of “OMG, did that really just happen?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!” It all gets to be too much and Mara finds herself off the deep end in a catatonic state where she won’t talk or even eat. Her over-protective mother isn’t much help, and just adds to Mara’s stress. Maybe crazy is a good thing because it protected Mara from seeing the truth.

There is an undeniably strong romance running through all of this. Noah is right for Mara. She desperately needs his stability right now. When Noah is first introduced, Mara is very wary of him. She trusts no one. Noah is persistent though and he finally gets Mara to give him a chance, even if it means tricking her into a date. I like Noah because his thoughtful and funny ways give a break from the intensity that is Mara. These two are steamy hot together and I couldn’t get enough of them.  They have perfectly timed and placed Sexy Times and I was all over those scenes.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is all mixed-up and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am sort of hoping that I am still confused after I read the sequel. It’s that fabulous kind of confused that doesn’t go away easily.  Join in on Mara Dyer fun and Read. This. Book.  You can thank me after you finish.

COVER COMMENTS

Whoa! This cover is as crazy awesome as the story inside. Why are they all dressed up under water? Is that Noah? Is it real?
