Ethan was abducted from his front yard when he was just seven years old. Now, at sixteen, he has returned to his family. It's a miracle... at first. Then the tensions start to build. His reintroduction to his old life isn't going smoothly, and his family is tearing apart all over again. If only Ethan could remember something, anything, about his life before, he'd be able to put the pieces back together. But there's something that's keeping his memory blocked. Something unspeakable...

I like to think that Dead to You has been McManned. It has been dealt the full Lisa McMann treatment where words are cautiously chosen. They appear sparse and deliberate. Each one carefully placed to bring about the desired emotion. Sometimes that emotion bubbles over and other times it simmers just below the surface. Either way, it is always there, always present.

Dead to You will mess with your mind big time. It is a complicated psychological puzzle. No lie, Ethan has faced some serious stuff. First the abduction, then the resulting abuse, and finally an unexpected return. End result? Ethan loses his memories from before the abduction. And don’t think for a minute that you have this one all figured out, because you will be dead wrong if you do.

Tension with a capital T. When Ethan returns, his family goes numb. They have long ago accepted the fact that they will never see him again. To his family, Ethan is dead. Now, the familiar sadness is shattered by Ethan’s abrupt return. No one, save Ethan’s little sister, knows how to deal. They flounder, as does Ethan. It’s ugly. It’s disturbing. It’s reality. There is no happy ending when so much harm has come before.

With a gripping plot and an uncomfortable subject, Dead to You delivers. Expect your mind to be blown by a very unusual and chilling writing style. You have been warned. Do not underestimate the Power of McMann!
