FIRST SENTENCE

“If my life were made into a movie – The Desi Bascomb Story Revealed – I’d use artistic license to make a few minor changes.”

SUMMARY

Desi Bascomb works at a pet store where she has to dress up like a groundhog. She is miserable because all she really wants to do is make a difference.  Somehow, she is going to find a way to do that.

Desi’s boss, Drake, tells her that he has a magical wishing tank and she can make a wish.  Desi doesn’t believe him, but she goes ahead and makes her wish.  She wishes to make an impact.  To Desi’s surprise, a magical lady named Meredith appears from a bubble.

Meredith gives Desi some amazing news.  Desi now has magical powers and will be subbing for princesses!  She is sent on three subbing assignments and encounters problems that may cost her the magical powers she has just been granted.

In the first assignment, Desi is put on a diet and is asked to play a French horn.  The problem is that she doesn’t know how to play a French horn.  She secretly escapes in a bubble.

In the second assignment, Desi has to perform a dance that allows the princess to choose her husband.  The problem is that Desi has never done this dance before.  This time, she actually runs away and is seen with the real princess.

In the third assignment, Desi breaks the rules and makes an impact on the real princess.  Once again, she escapes in a bubble.

REVIEW

If you want a book that screams GIRLIE, this is the book for you.  Princesses, a magical wishing tank, and magical bubbles – it’s all in there!

Desi was just an ordinary girl, but she was in an extraordinary situation.  I loved that the story was told from her “normal” girl point of view.  She often felt out of place and confused.

Each character had distinct personalities.  Desi was a typical girl.  Meredith was cold and bossy.  Each of the princesses was different from the one before.  It was almost like reading three short stories within one big story. 

This is a cute book!  I hope there is a sequel.
