Paying for the news?

I’ve been sending various photos to various website competitions, in the vague hope that I might win something. Sometimes this goes well, sometimes not. Today I wandered over to the Times to send in a shot for their monthly competition, only to discover that you now have to pay to access the Times online.

I’m not entirely convinced this is a winning strategy, given that so much news content is available for free already online, and I’m definitely not going to pay so I can send in a photo. I’m sure there must be other more intelligent ways of monetizing a website. Although maybe not.

In other news, we’re popping out into the countryside for a day or two, staying at a cottage. The weather is quite fabulous. I wonder if a BBQ may even be on the cards.
