Books to Call Friends
Choosing books to read is like choosing your friends. Sometimes we choose books that compliment us because we can relate to the story or the main character. Sometimes we choose books to fill a void or to experience things we are missing like love, adventure, mystery, or intrigue. Either way books enrich our lives and can fill a part of us that’s missing. Some books are like friends we have great adventures with, others are closer like friends we share our secrets with.
For Lilly, the main character in Return the Heart, books are her closest friends. With Lilly’s ability to read the heart and know the secrets of everyone she sees, books provide an escape for her. They are her refuge because she doesn’t have to sift through their emotions and quirks like she does with people.
In Return the Heart, life takes a drastic turn for Lilly catapulting her into her own story of epic proportions. The books she’s read pale in comparison to what she goes through in the novel. No adventure, mystery, or love story compares.
Although Lilly makes good friends in Return the Heart, who are there for very important reasons, Lilly always maintains her love for books – after all they were her first friends.
Lilly, chose her books wisely and so should we. We should select books that are appropriate for us, books that are good for us, and books that will be good friends. After all they stick with us for a long time.
I hope Return the Heart makes it on your list of books to call friends.
