Access Denied: And Other Eighth Grade Error Messages

ACCESS DENIED

AND OTHER EIGHTH GRADE

ERROR MESSAGES

By:  Denise Vega

FIRST SENTENCE

“Why can’t I go?”

SUMMARY
from goodreads

Computer whiz Erin Swift is ready to start eighth grade.  The Year of Humiliating Events (aka seventh grade) is behind her and she’s ready to rule the school.  But eighth grade comes with its own set of problems for Erin to navigate, including her first boyfriend, her first breakup, and the fact that her mom has been treating her more like an eight-year-old than an eighth grader.

Even worse, there’s a new girl at Molly Brown Middle School who is determined to remake Erin in her bad-girl image, and former crush Mark “Cute Boy” Sacks has been acting strange lately.
But as Erin’s school year once again hurtles toward disaster, a personal tragedy forces her to realize that things, and people, aren’t always as bad as they seem.  Can she save what’s left of eighth grade before it’s too late?

REVIEW

Will Erin and Mark end up together or not?  First Erin likes Mark and he doesn’t like her.  Then Mark likes and Erin and she doesn’t like him.  Lather Rinse Repeat.  These two go back-and-forth so many times that it made me dizzy.

Erin is living down all the embarrassing things that happened to her in seventh grade.  That story is covered in Click Here:  To Find Out How I Survived Seventh Grade.  I have not read the first book, but I was able to figure out what was going on just fine.  One of the most embarrassing things was that Erin’s blog, and all it’s personal posts, had gone viral in seventh grade.  This time around, Erin has her blog set to private and some of the posts are included in the book.  They gave me a glimpse of the real Erin.

Aside from the Erin and Mark drama, there is a second plot going on with Erin’s lockermate, Reede.  Now, I have to say that Reede is not the kind of girl you want as a friend.  She is a rule-breaking trouble-maker and she tries to influence Erin in a bad way.

Access Denied is a good book but the plot was a little too predictable for me.  Thank you to Little, Brown and Company for sending this book for me to review.
