With her rare ability to breathe fire, Jacinda is special even among the draki – the descendants of dragons who can shift between human and dragon forms. But when Jacinda’s rebelliousness leads her family to flee into the human world, she struggles to adapt, even as her draki spirit fades. The one thing that revives it is Will, whose family hunts her kind. Jacinda can’t resist getting closer to him, even though she knows she’s risking not only her life but the draki’s most closely guarded secret.
REVIEW
Paranormal takes on a whole new twist in Firelight with draki – evolved dragons who can change between human and dragon forms. Now that’s HOT!
Jacinda is not your everyday draki. She is the first fire breathing draki in many generations. Jacinda has a bit of a wild streak and this forces her mother to move the family to the desert. The desert is not a great place for draki to live, and Jacinda fears she will lose her draki powers. Although we are talking draki here, the teen girl struggling against her mother’s wishes is realistic and believable.
What is a draki story without some romance? Jacinda is drawn to Will, a hunter who is human. Talk about an unlikely pair! These two should be enemies, but Jacinda’s draki form grows stronger when she is with Will.
Now don’t go thinking that it’s all mushy romance. There is plenty of action between the hunters and the draki. I loved how Sophie Jordan wrote these scenes and how she slipped in little facts about the draki.
If you are tired of werewolves and vampires, then try out the draki. They just may light a spark for you like they did for me. I am looking forward to Vanish, the next book in this series.
