THE THIRD DEGREE
BOOKISH CAREERS
When I was a little girl, my mom says I wanted to be a doctor who worked at the castle and took care of all the princesses. While that sounds pretty cool, I can’t imagine there are many princess doctor jobs out there.
I was on a competitive dance team until I was ten, so my next career goal was to own a dance studio. Since then, I have given up dance to focus more on school and my dance studio dream fizzled away.
Last year, I would have told you that I wanted to be a lawyer. I wanted to help people. The more I learned about a career in law, the more I realized it was a career where I would constantly be dealing with conflicts and situations that weren’t very pleasant. That’s not really what I had in mind. I avoid conflict.
Now, at eleven years old, I think I have found my true calling. Books! Books have actually been around all along, I just didn’t know that they could lead to a career. Having a book blog has opened my eyes to the possibilities!
There are all kinds of bookish jobs out there and I want to learn more. Actually, I am thinking about a little feature where I interview people with different book-related jobs. I would get an idea of what schooling they needed, what a typical day is like, what they like best about their job, etc.
Sound interesting? Do you know anyone who might want to take part?
Edit to add: If you want to send me an email, that's okay too readingvacation{at}att.net
