A lot of people know Brent as one of the funniest bloggers around. Sure, he has a great sense of humor, but that's not all. Brent is a very sweet guy who has also become one of my treasured book blogging friends. Oh, and he’s great for book recommendations too. If you don’t already know, Melina is having me — Brent from The Naughty Book Kitties —guest post here at Reading Vacation. Today I am going to share with you my tips on how to maintain a successful blog.
1. Blog a lot.
Blog at least three times a week. This will show potential readers that you’re dedicated and consistent.
2. Blog quality content.
If you’re a book blogger, blog about books. If you’re a fashion blogger, blog about fashion. Choose a topic you’re passionate about to be the focus of your blog, and stick to that topic. This will make blogging more fun, and your blog will read as authentic.
3. Utilize catchy titles.
Make sure you come up with a good title for your blog. People always ask me, “Why did you name your blog Naughty Book Kitties?” and my answer is this: It’s a completely unique title that intrigues people. Someone sees “Naughty Book Kitties” and thinks, Naughty = fun. Books = books. Fun & books! Yeah, I’m going to check this blog out. The title of your blog can make a huge difference in building a readership.
4. Stand out.
Be unique! That’s what people want in a blogger; that’s what I want in a blogger! Be funny, or serious, or a mix of both. Blogging is a lot like writing fiction—find your voice. Cultivate it.
5. Market like there’s no tomorrow.
Make a Twitter account for your blog. Make a Facebook page. Advertise on other blogs. Guest post on other blogs. Host contests (people love free books). Readers will come, you just have to give it time.
