GOODREADS SUMMARY

Lord Arkus of Blackriver Castle readily admits that he is a villain and sees no reason why it should stop him from being the protagonist of this book. After all, Prince Kellemar, an aspiring hero, has defeated him in a rather questionable way. Bent on revenge, Arkus attempts to capture a powerful evil spirit who would make him nearly invincible, but a last-minute mistake leaves him with a sparkling instead a goody-goody spirit that helps heroes, watches over little children, and messes up villains plans. Bound to Lord Arkus for five years of service and sworn to act in his best interests, the sparkling is not easy to get rid of, and of course his understanding of best interests is quite different from what Lord Arkus has in mind.

REVIEW

This is a hilarious story where a super villain becomes the superhero. “What!” you say, “that is impossible!” Well, unbelieving readers of mine, there is a first for everything, and Lord Arkus of Blackriver Castle fits the bill nicely for our super villain gone good.

How does this miracle come about? Arkus, in an effort to catch an evil spirit, instead captures a sparkling named Jarvi. A sparkling is a goody-two-shoe who is of no use to a supreme villain in the making. That is, unless your sparkling turns you into a hero against your will. Because, you know, sparklings can be verrrry sneaky.

I just love how this story reads like a classic fairy tale.  When you look past the funny, you get to the lesson that anyone can be a hero. Even someone like Lord Arkus, who, at first, seems to be made completely of bad. Sweet Jarvi only means well and brings out the best in others. I want a sparkling of my own now too!

Oh, and be prepared for a ten-tissue tear-jerking ending. *sigh*

COVER COMMENTS

Pure enchanted fantasy! A castle, a dragon-like beast, Lord Arcus, and Jarvi. It reminds me of a fairy tale cover. Sweetness.
