AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Joanna Philbin
The Daughters Series
Have you heard about Joanna Philbin’s fabulous series, The Daughters? WHAT? You haven’t? Well, you are missing out big time! The series is about the adventures of three daughters of famous parents. One parent is a model, one is a business tycoon, and one is a pop singer. The stories are both inspiring and fun. Joanna was so sweet to answer my questions about her books and about growing up with a famous parent of her own.

I am beyond excited that you are writing another book for your fabulous Daughters series. The Daughters Join the Party will be out in November 2011. How were you able to top the first three books?
Well, it remains to be seen if I do! J But this book is definitely a bit of a departure from the rest of the series. Emma, the main character, is much more rebellious, much more of a troublemaker. She makes Carina look like a saint!
Which of the three main characters in the Daughters best represents you in your teenage years? I hope to be like Lizzie, the character who is all about writing.
I think I was probably the most like Lizzie. I loved to read, I wanted to be a writer, I worried about my looks, and I was a little shy around guys.
You are the perfect author for a series about growing up with an ultra-famous parent. Your father is The Regis after all. What does he think of your series and how you have presented girls in situations similar to your own?
I think my dad is just relieved that I’m finally a writer! And I think he’s proud of the way I’ve written about this subject matter. I was so worried about what he might think of the series. But he has been nothing but supportive ever since I began working on it.
California or New York? I understand that you live in California now, but grew up in New York City.
New York will always be my favorite place to live. I love California – it’s a much easier way of life – but every time I come home to New York, it’s like waking up from a deep sleep. New York makes me feel alive.
Do you have any other projects that you would like to share?
I’m in the beginning stages of working on a new series. That’s all I’ll say for now… stay tuned!
Thank you to Joanna and also to Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for arranging this interview. I had so much fun with it!
