GOODREADS SUMMARY

What's a girl to do when meeting The One means she's cursed to die a horrible death?

Life hasn't been easy on sixteen-year-old Emma Connor, so a new start in New York may be just the change she needs. But the posh Upper East Side prep school she has to attend? Not so much. Friendly faces are few and far between, except for one that she's irresistibly drawn to—Brendan Salinger, the guy with the rock-star good looks and the richest kid in school, who might just be her very own white knight.

But even when Brendan inexplicably turns cold, Emma can't stop staring. Ever since she laid eyes on him, strange things have been happening. Streetlamps go out wherever she walks, and Emma's been having the oddest dreams: visions of herself in past lives—visions that warn her to stay away from Brendan. Or else.

REVIEW

After the last few years, Emma just wanted to fade into the background of her new school. When she starts at a new high school, all she wants is to survive and graduate. Then she meets Brendan, who she is immediately drawn to. Perhaps too much. Emma finds herself pulled into a world of magic, heartbreak, and an age old love story.

Emma made a great heroine. She stood up for what she believed in, and protected those she loved with a fierce loyalty. Emma was also mature and much calmer then I would have been in her shoes. I loved that she really tried to figure out what was happening to her concerning Brendan. She did not just sit on the sidelines and wait. Instead, Emma found her own answers.

I loved the idea of Brendan and Emma’s romance and I dove right in. The story behind it was fantastic and well thought out. It was like a story within a story. The attraction they felt was almost tangible and the two really could not help falling in love.

There’s some paranormal action with one of Emma’s new friends who is a witch. The magic comes in both good and evil forms and plays out in both the past and present. It’s pretty cool and the mystery surrounding the magic adds a flair of intrigue to the main plot.

Spellbound is one of the rare single title books out these days and it wraps up nicely.

COVER COMMENTS

Great cover. Yes, it is mostly black, but that sets off the white really well. Emma is running away next to what I think is the railing of a bridge. The shattered black pieces look like they are chasing her.
