GOODREADS SUMMARY

Princess Wisdom, known as Dizzy, longs for a life of adventure far beyond the staid old kingdom of Montagne.

Tips, a soldier, longs to keep his true life secret from his family.

Fortitude, an orphaned maid, longs only for Tips.

These three passionate souls might just attain their dreams while preserving Montagne from certain destruction, if only they can tolerate each other long enough to come up with a plan. Tough to save the world when you can't even be in the same room together.

Magic, cunning, and one very special cat join forces in this hilarious, extraordinary tale by the author of Dairy Queen and Princess Ben. An incredibly creative tale told with diaries, memoirs, encyclopedia entries, letters, biographies, even a stage play, all woven together into a grand adventure.

REVIEW

The kingdom of Montagne is being threatened by an evil subject from another kingdom. It is up to an unexpected trio of characters to save Montagne. First, there is Dizzy the rebel princess who doesn’t act much like a prim and proper princess. Next, there is Tips, a soldier who carries on an unusual secret life behind-the-scenes. Finally, there is Fortitude, a humble maid who has a long-standing crush on Tips. I love this setup!

What I liked most about Wisdom’s Kiss was the humor. I especially liked the circus acts performed on top of a giant blimp. Yes, there is a circus blimp! There are funny names for places, a sly cat, weird traditions, and sarcastic characters. I also liked the happy ending and how the title is PERFECT, just like a traditional fairy tale.

Wisdom’s Kiss is told from eight points of view. Whoa!  To keep it all straight, Catherine Gilbert Murdock presents the text in various formats. Some of these formats are letters, a diary, encyclopedia entries, a memoir, and a play. I was reading on an e-reader, so these different formats didn’t stand out so well. I suspect they are much easier to read in a physical copy of the book.

COVER COMMENTS

There’s Dizzy in a pretty dress and the sly cat by her side. I expected something a little more colorful or humorous for this story.
