GOODREADS SUMMARY

Braden was born with witch eyes: the ability to see the world as it truly is: a blinding explosion of memories, darkness, and magic. The power enables Braden to see through spells and lies, but at the cost of horrible pain.

After a terrifying vision reveals imminent danger for the uncle who raised and instructed him, Braden retreats to Belle Dam, an old city divided by two feuding witch dynasties. As rival family heads Catherine Lansing and Jason Thorpe desperately try to use Braden's powers to unlock Belle Dam's secrets, Braden vows never to become their sacrificial pawn. But everything changes when Braden learns that Jason is his father--and Trey, the enigmatic guy he's falling for, is Catherine's son.

To stop an insidious dark magic from consuming the town, Braden must master his gift—and risk losing the one he loves.

REVIEW

Braden’s “sees” in a peculiar way. His witch eyes allow him to decipher spells with a glance, see the past, and peek at auras. Braden’s eyes are both a blessing and a curse. They give him the power to see what others cannot, but they also leave him to deal with the repercussions of knowing things he should not know. Just imagine how conflicting it would be to know things that you should not know.

When Braden arrives in Belle Dam, he finds an ages old town hanging in the balance. The leaders of two witch families, Catherine Lansing and Jason Thorpe, are at odds. Their feud spills over and the entire town gets caught up in the madness. I was right there with Braden as he searched for clues about his witch eyes while refusing to choose sides in the feud. Braden’s curiosity led him to uncover some shocking secrets about himself and Belle Dam.

There was a lot that I liked about Braden. He was tough on the outside, sweet on the inside, loyal, and funny too. I think his romantic interest, Trey, made a good match and I am excited for where their relationship can go. I have a feeling these two are meant to be together in the long run. Two guys in a relationship is really not that different from a girl and guy.  They still have the same sort of feelings.

I enjoyed this unusual story about a boy with magical witch eyes.  Scott Tracey’s descriptions of what Braden can see are wonderfully graphic. It was as though I were looking at the scenes through my own witch eyes.  Awesome!

COVER COMMENTS

Can you say CREEPY? Braden has a normal eye and a witch eye on the cover. I love how the title font looks like it is being pulled vertically. Cool effect! Oh, and the mansion looks spooky glowing all red.
