GOODREADS SUMMARY

Lexi is cursed with a dark secret. Each day she goes to school like a normal teenager, and each night she must swim, or the pain will be unbearable. She is a siren - a deadly mermaid destined to lure men to their watery deaths. After a terrible tragedy, Lexi shut herself off from the world, vowing to protect the ones she loves. But she soon finds herself caught between a new boy at school who may have the power to melt her icy exterior, and a handsome water spirit who says he can break Lexi's curse if she gives up everything else. Lexi is faced with the hardest decision she's ever had to make: the life she's always longed for - or the love she can't live without?

REVIEW

The sirens in Ripple have a bad reputation. At the age of sixteen, they are drawn to the water to sing men to their death. The girls in Lexi’s family have the siren curse.  So, why don't they just move away from the water, to the desert perhaps.  Who wants to be a siren who murders? Well, they can't because they go crazy if they are away from the water.  No easy answers.

Lexi has already tragically caused one death with her singing. Unlike most sirens, Lexi actually feels bad for the death she caused. She is teased by her classmates for the killing too.  That's some seriously strange bullying - "We don't like you because you didn't save that guy."  "You are a loser because you are the reason someone is DEAD !"  Lexi ignores them, which is a smart tactic.  But I hated that she felt like she deserved their teasing.  Ahhh, Lexi you don't deserve their teasing!

The character development of Lexi is awesome. Starting out with a frosty exterior that slowly melts away, Lexi goes through a transformation. Sometimes Lexi came off as a little bit shallow for wanting to be “normal” with so much at stake, but she was an honest and nice girl underneath it all.  I really really liked Lexi.

Oh no, it’s a love triangle that’s a bit predictable because one boy is from school and other is from the water. Do you think she’ll fall for the human boy (her prey) or the water boy (her equal)? In this case, one of the boys is so much better suited for Lexi in every way that it was easy to see who she would end up with. I will have to give the love triangle a thumbs down.  Boo.

Ripple is a quick read with a great main character, but a predictable romance.

3 So-So

COVER COMMENTS

The cover is really pretty. I love the colors. I also love that they are on land and not in the water. It’s unexpected!
