GONE BOOK CLUB
Michael Grant
It's all about the GONE series by Michael Grant.
With the upcoming release of FEAR, and bloggers posting pictures of the FEAR arc in their IMM posts, I felt left out. It seemed like everyone had already read the first four books of the GONE series. Everyone except me, that is.
I posted a tweet about wanting to read GONE over my holiday break from school. I was surprised when a few other bloggers came back saying they would read it along with me. Add a few more bloggers, and we had the Gone Book Club.
Y’all are not going to believe what I ended up doing over the past five days though. I have been a bit of an over-achiever. We were just supposed to read the first book, GONE. I did that pretty fast and I kept going. I read HUNGER. Then I read LIES. You guessed it, then I read PLAGUE. And now I’m not so patiently waiting for an arc of FEAR to arrive in the mail. I guess I kind of cheated on the book club, but I just Could. Not. Help. Myself. These books are so addictive.
Let me tell you a little bit about the series.
The ongoing theme in the GONE series is that there are no adults. They all disappear in the first few pages, and we are left with a group of kids in a twenty mile long bubble. Let me tell you, things go from bad to worse to even worse to worst! If you think you’ve heard it all, trust me, you haven’t. It’s dystopian, but not the usual somewhat predictable plot. It’s way more and just fantabulous!
What brings this epic series to life though is Michael Grant’s writing style. He has this technique where there are a bunch of different story lines, different points of view, all going on at the same time. It switches back and forth and all around. But at the end, they all come together in an amazing ending. Somehow, Michael Grant makes it all seamlessly flow into one distinct conclusion. And all I can say is WOW!
