Twas the Week After Christmas…

Happy week after Christmas everyone!  I, along with the rest of the blogosphere, am finally feeling my way out of the holiday fog, shaking off the sugar coma, and getting back to life as I know it during OTHER eleven months of the year.

Depressing, isn’t it?  For a month (or more!) we build ourselves up for that one day – December 25 – when we will tear open presents and drive to see family members all over town and eat ourselves sick and silly and laugh and be merry, only to watch December 26 roll around all too quickly.  And then, *POOF* – you’re back at home, knee deep in shirt boxes and doodads you have to find a place for, not to mention all the other household chores you’ve been neglecting while getting your Christmas on.

I don’t know about you, but I battle a little bit of the after-holiday-blues just after Christmas.  Sometimes it all just feels a little anti-climactic.  And taking DOWN the Christmas decorations is about .0009% as fun as putting them up was. Am I right, or am I right?

But I didn’t intend for this post to be negative and depressing; quite the opposite, in fact!  This year, I decided to challenge myself to look at this week (and the following new year!) after Christmas through different eyes.  I decided to challenge myself not to bemoan the passing of Christmas, but to find joy in all the goodness, the special occasions, and the reasons to celebrate in the year to come.  Christmas isn’t the only time of year that can be beautiful and full of childlike joy and giving and celebration.  With the New Year will come new beginnings and fresh starts, with the spring will come wildflowers and warm sunshine, with summer will come scorching, stifling, life-sucking heat and the desperate desire to do nothing besides languish inside the nearest air-conditioned building and dream of cooler climates with… oh.  That’s just summer here in Texas.

I’m bitter, clearly.

But you get my point, right?  There is just SO MUCH to STILL be excited about.  Joy begins right inside your own mind and heart; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

Enough rambling for now.  I’ll leave you with a few pictures from my lovely Christmas, and I’ll wish you a perfectly beautiful new week… :)
