GOODREADS SUMMARY

After their father’s disappearance, Cinder leaves home for a servant job at the castle. But it isn’t long before her sister Ella is brought to the castle herself—the most dangerous place in the entire kingdom for both her and Cinder. Cinder and Ella is a Cinderella story like no other and one you'll never forget.

REVIEW

Cinder and Ella is NOT Cinderella. It is, however, a gripping version that spins the original inside out. Prepare to be spun!

Cinder and Ella are sisters in a family that is falling apart. Their father disappears, their mother goes crazy, and their other sisters are selfish brats. Cinder ends up working at the castle while Ella, who has become invisible to nearly everyone, leaves for the unknown.  There is just enough drama going on without being depressing.

On her journey, Ella meets a handsome knight who is on a mission of his own. The transformation of Ella while she is on her journey is breathtaking. Ella goes from hardly being noticed to being a strong heroine with a mind of her own. Props for Ella!

The medieval kingdom is beautifully described with lush pastures, quaint villages, and an opposing castle. The royals wear vibrant clothing and the servants are dressed in drab work clothes. The detailed descriptions paint a picture in my mind.

There is a fitting ending to this tale of good vs evil. I hope Melissa Lemon will give another fairy tale a spin.

COVER COMMENTS

That tree on the cover will make sense once you read the story. I like the magical glow and the castle in the background.
