What’s so great about the Gold Coast, Australia

As usual it's thanks to Sachin and answering to "What’s so great about the Gold Coast?" question, in Sachin's words... If you must know everything... :)

The Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise are so much a part of the Australian tourism landscape that people tend to forget that this is where the “fabulous Aussie beach holiday” really started. This is one of the best organized, all-in-one tourist destinations in the world. Surfers Paradise apartments are the original benchmark for beach holidays today, and they still deliver.

Surfers Paradise, Australia
The Surfers lifestyle, explained - In the early days, the towers on the water were considered almost alien buildings. Surfers also pioneered the coastal lifestyle in many ways, and before them, there just wasn’t anything like those towers. It’s sort of funny to listen to people debating the merits of having an apartment on the water. If you’ve ever actually lived right on the beach, you’ll know what an incredible experience it can be.

Surfers was the original and still is a primary tourism hub for southeastern Queensland. It virtually created modern Queensland as it is today. It was also largely responsible for turning the virtual bush tracks between the New South Wales border and Brisbane into presentable roads, too. If you’d traveled the coast road in the early 60s, the car’s suspension wouldn’t have been the only thing in need of repair.

Surfers epitomized the sand sun and surf lifestyle for a generation, and took it nationwide. It was the image of Australia, for decades. It also contributed a lot to the development of the addictive Queensland lifestyle of today- Bush, beach, city and elegance, the idealized Australian lifestyle. To this day, Australians from all over the country come and force themselves to wade through great food, excellent hotels, great night life and dazzling beaches.

The Gold Coast region - The Gold Coast has a characteristic which most people don’t even notice- It’s not, like so many tourist zones around the world, a “one trick wonder”. You can’t see everything in one holiday, unless you’re prepared to stay for about a year or so.

Attractions include:

> The fabulous Gold Coast hinterland - This is real Queensland bush, all in good condition.
> The endless series of activities - Things like yachting, fishing, scuba, power boating, jet skiing- It’s like a Yellow Pages of holiday fun, really.
> The family friendly approach - If you’ve got children, you’ll soon learn to appreciate the Gold Coast accommodation for kids for very practical reasons. This region is justly famous for family holidays, and quite literally just about every Australian has fond memories of at least one childhood visit to the Gold Coast.
> The amenities - If you want amenities, anything from a big conference venue to designer upmarket villa or a beachside bungalow, you can book it all online and get yourself set up in a few minutes.

The Gold Coast is the sort of place you can really come and have a holiday. There’s no fuss, and that’s exactly what Australians like about it. You don’t have to schedule yourself to death or run around. Everything on the Gold Coast is accessible, when you feel like it.

If you want to just park yourself on the beach and do absolutely nothing, it’s easy. Actually, try that first. You’ll love it.
