GOODREADS SUMMARY

As reality slips and time stands still, Consuela finds herself thrust into the world of the Flow. Removed from all she loves into this shifting world overlapping our own, Consuela quickly discovers she has the power to step out of her earthly skin and cloak herself in new ones-skins made from the world around her, crafted from water, fire, air. She is joined by other teens with extraordinary abilities, bound together to safeguard a world they can affect, but where they no longer belong.

When murder threatens to undo the Flow, the Watcher charges Consuela and elusive, attractive V to stop the killer. But the psychopath who threatens her new world may also hold the only key to Consuela's way home.

REVIEW

Consuela can shed her human skin and make new ones out of organic materials. If you need to re-read that, go ahead. It confused me for a while too. In reality, it is really a cool power. Being able to transform into almost anything on a whim was probably the best element of this book. My favorite skin was the butterfly skin because it seemed so whimsical.

The Flow was hard to wrap my head around. In the end I think I got a picture of the world Consuela finds herself in, but some elements still elude me. Like how exactly the Flow is set up, and what is the history behind it.

Consuela was an intriguing main character. Insecure about her old life, she changed and grew while in her new life. Along with Consuela, there are other characters in the Flow with their own special powers. What is really cool is that everyone in the Flow is seen differently than they were in their prior life. It’s really a great concept.

Luminous tells a one-of-a-kind story. I liked Dawn Metcalf’s writing style for its creativity. She has a fantastic imagination and I loved taking a peek into her imaginary world.

COVER COMMENTS

Gorgeous! I love how the butterflies are starting to cover half of her face. It’s a beautiful depiction of what happens in the Flow. And the title really does look Luminous.
