GOODREADS SUMMARY

Katarina Bishop has worn a lot of labels in her short life: Friend. Niece. Daughter. Thief. But for the last two months she’s simply been known as the girl who ran the crew that robbed the greatest museum in the world. That’s why Kat isn’t surprised when she’s asked to steal the infamous Cleopatra Emerald so it can be returned to its rightful owners.

There are only three problems. First, the gem hasn’t been seen in public in thirty years. Second, since the fall of the Egyptian empire and the suicide of Cleopatra, no one who holds the emerald keeps it for long — and in Kat’s world, history almost always repeats itself. But it’s the third problem that makes Kat’s crew the most nervous, and that is . . . the emerald is cursed.

Kat might be in way over her head, but she’s not going down without a fight. After all, she has her best friend — the gorgeous Hale — and the rest of her crew with her as they chase the Cleopatra around the globe, dodging curses and realizing that the same tricks and cons her family has used for centuries are useless this time.

Which means, this time, Katarina Bishop is making up her own rules.

REVIEW

The stakes are high in Uncommon Criminals as Kat is on assignment to steal the Cleopatra Emerald. This isn’t any ordinary gem. The Cleopatra Emerald is believed to be cursed and awful things happen to anyone who holds it for too long. What shocking discoveries will be uncovered? Who can be trusted? Let the mayhem begin!

This plot is phenomenal. Really, there is no other way to say it. Ally Carter builds suspense, twists the plot inside out, and works the details like a brilliant tapestry. I would even say that Uncommon Criminals outdoes Heist Society when it comes to awesomeness. I did not think it was possible either – but it’s true! This plot is phenomenal.

There is something special about Kat and Hale’s relationship. As friends and co-conspirators in a tangled-up caper, they definitely look out for each other. I love that there is no drama between them. Instead, they nicely complement each other and make a spectacular team. I love how they work together as they make decisions and play off of each other’s strengths.

With a zig-zagging mystery to solve, Uncommon Criminals is as brilliant as the Cleopatra Emerald. Put this one on your summer reading list now.

COVER COMMENTS

This cover is genius! Look at the Cleopatra Emerald in Kat’s sunglasses. And her eyes look mysterious peering off to the side. One of the most eye-catching covers this year.
